Handwashing#
The procedure aims to describe the good practices in handwashing before and after laboratory manipulations.
Description#
- Handwashing is performed before doing any experiment in the lab as well as before exiting the laboratory.
- A good handwashing is essential to avoid contamination and must last at least 40 seconds.
- Consider the sink, including the faucet, as contaminated and avoid direct contact with them.
- Wet your hands with water.
- Dispense a dose of soap in the palm of your hand.
- Rub your hands palm to palm.
- Rub your right palm over left dorsum with interlaced fingers and vice versa.
- Rub palm to palm with fingers interlaced.
- Rub the back of your fingers to the opposing palms with fingers interlocked.
- Perform a rotational rubbing of the left thumb clasped in the right palm and vice versa.
- Perform a rotational rubbing backwards and forwards with clasped fingers of the right hand in the left palm and vice versa.
- Rinse your hands with water.
- Dry your hands thoroughly with a single use towel.
- Use the towel to turn off the faucet
